If your church is looking for a fun skit to put on for the kids, here's one that I rewrote from an older skit at church. It was used for the Birthday Party for Jesus at Immanuel Lutheran in Brookfield, WI. The kids really seemed to like it, and the adults were able to be mildly entertained, as well.

EXT TREE LOT - DAY
BILL THE TREE is standing in a tree lot, waiting to be bought. Cut-outs of other trees might be surrounding Bill, or other people could be dressed up as the other trees. Bill wears a green shirt, maybe felt, with a pointy hat and brown pants, holding a few branches from a fake tree.
BILL THE TREE
(Excited)
I’m finally tall enough [stand tall], big enough [arms out], and [points to head] uh, tall enough to be a Christmas tree! But what is a Christmas tree and why’s being one so special, anyhow? I guess I’ll find out if someone ever buys me. I’m getting cold out here, and Douglas Fir over there isn’t much of a talker.
MA KELLY walks onto the tree lot with her (real or pretend) children. She is a young mom in a relatively good mood, even if her kids are a bit rambunctious right now.
MA KELLY
Jonathan, hurry up! You are so not dressed for this cold weather. Abby, stop jumping in the snow; you don’t have your boots on! I need a high-quality, American-grown tree fast so I can get you two home. Oh, here’s a tree [grabbing a tree]; too scrawny. Wait, maybe this one {grabs another tree]. No, this one’s too short. We need a nice, full tree about this height.
Ma Kelly holds her hand up to a height just above that of Bill the Tree. Bill the Tree stands up on his tippy toes and moves towards her.
MA KELLY
I just don’t see a full, green tree about this height anywhere. [to audience] Do you? … Where?
Kelly looks around as kids point to Bill the Tree. Bill inches towards her, and then she turns to see him.
MA KELLY
My, this one looks just about right, except it’s maybe just a little shorter than last year’s. [Bill gets on tips of toes]
It’s such a green tree, and the green color reminds us that we will never die. Unlike the leaves on the other kinds of trees, we’re going to live forever in heaven with Jesus, and green means life forever found!
Look at the nice shape the tree has and how it seems to point right up to heaven’s height. Let’s get this tree.
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
They really like me! She said I remind them of everlasting life, and [looking up] hey, my top branch does point straight up.
Ma Kelly and Bill the Tree walk to the “car.” She pretends to drive and Bill walks behind. Maybe some stuffing in the car/pulling out of the car sight gags.
MA KELLY
Here we are at home. Let’s find the best place for our tree so everyone can see how fabulous it is... There -- pretty perfection all around. I’ll get some decorations.
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
Pretty perfection all around.
It’s so warm and cozy in this beautiful house, and I must be special because I’m right here next to this five-foot wide television set. I’m still not sure exactly why.
MA KELLY
The first decorations to go on are the lights. [throws lights over Bill] The Bible says Jesus was born to be The True Light of the World. He told us and showed us how much God loves us. [plug in lights] It’s like the light of the world so bright.
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
Pretty perfection all around.
Light of the world so bright.
That must be why they put lights on me. Jesus was The True Light of the World, and when they look at me, I remind them of Jesus.
MA KELLY
[putting ornaments on] Are you two kids having fun helping with the ornaments? Jonathan, don’t put that popcorn in your mouth--it’s older than you are. Abby, please don’t swing the glass ornament around your head. Oh, decorating the tree is so much fun, and it reminds us that God loves us all the time-- yesterday, today, and forever.
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
Pretty perfection all around.
Light of the world so bright.
Love of yesterday and today.
I can see why this family is so happy, even if the mom seems a little high-strung. Jesus loves them so much and takes care of them.
Ma Kelly wraps the garland around Bill the Tree in as ridiculous a manner as possible.
MA KELLY
The way this garland is going around the tree is a lot like when I give you kids a big hug, isn’t it? That’s how Jesus’ love is for us--like we’re wrapped in a big strong hug of love.
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
Pretty perfection all around.
Light of the world so bright.
Love of yesterday and today.
Wrapped in a hug so strong.
This garland feels so nice, like a big hug from Jesus, who loves them and takes care of them.
MA KELLY
Here’s our star for the very top of the tree. On the very first Christmas, God made a special star that shined in the heavens to let everyone know that Jesus had been born. People from very far away knew: Jesus is born; hooray!
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found!
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
Pretty perfection all around.
Light of the world so bright.
Love of yesterday and today.
Wrapped in a hug so strong.
Jesus is born; hooray!
I like this sparkly hat, and now I really feel special because my hat is like that very special star that God made on the first Christmas. The hat is a symbol of a symbol of a metaphor atop a symbol of a symbolic metaphor for Jesus. Bam! Wait, no, that’s right.
MA KELLY
[put skirt around tree] Now we can put our presents under the tree. Here’s one for Daddy. Do you know why we give presents at Christmas? [wait] To show we love one another -- that’s why! No matter how many presents we put under a tree, they can’t be as wonderful as the one God gave to us. The other gifts under the tree can remind us that our Savior is our gift all along. (more explanation in text)
BILL THE TREE
Green means life forever found! [arms out]
Pointing up to heaven’s height.
[point up]
Pretty perfection all around.
[spin around]
Light of the world so bright.
[twinkly jazz hands]
Love of yesterday and today.
[point back; point down]
Wrapped in a hug so strong.
[hug self]
Jesus is born; hooray!
[? ; holding baby]
Our Savior is our gift all along.
[box hands or gift open gesture]
And now I can see what Christmas is and why it’s so special to be a Christmas tree.
(Happy birthday wish)
